He was born in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo on August 18, 1969, son of the late Mazandu-Kuza and Nketani-Bilandi. He is survived by his beloved wife Madam Marie-Paul (Malungidi), his four children (Jemima, Glodi, Keren and Emmanuel) and his siblings and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Dr Kuzamunu was a senior lecturer and lead developer for the Sickle Africa Data Coordinating Centre in the Division of Human Genetics under the Department of Pathology.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">Amongst many other contributions to the field of Bioinformatics, he helped to develop the SCDO and was instrumental in most of the SCDO publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">Dr Kuzamunu was very humble and generous to everyone, especially students, and had a great sense of humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-small-font-size\">For more on Gaston&#8217;s life and successes, and to read heartfelt stories and tributes to his life, you can visit his <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forevermissed.com\/gaston-kuzamunu-mazandu\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Gaston Kuzamunu Mazandu, passed away on September 24, 2021 in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
